December Holiday traditions

Once again for the 16th year, the Holidazzel Parade has swung into full gear. This year the magical Holidazzel is brought to you by Macys. It’s one very spectacular one half hour of storybook characters, glittering in over a million Christmas lights on floats while they parade down Nicollet Mall.

The Holidazzle tradition was created in 1992 with the opening of the Bloomington Mall Of America. It was developed as a way to bring or retain Christmas shoppers to the downtown Minneapolis stores. Since 1992, the parade has become more and more of an event for families to look forward to.

The Holidazzle begins the day after Christmas and runs every Thursday, Friday Saturday and Sunday through December 23rd. It starts at 12th Street and Nicollet traveling down Nicollet Mall to 4th Street. The festivities start at 6:30 each of these evenings. It is best to arrive early to of course position yourself with great viewing location. Remember to bundle up as it can get cold standing on the cold concrete sidewalks. If you are early enough you can find various HotSeats for about $7 and $5 on Thursdays. You will find vendors along the parade route.

Each parade has a marshal. On December 8, Minnesota’s own Will Stegar will marshal the parade.

Don’t miss this spectacular storybook event and the great shopping experience of down town Minneapolis.
